The 3 Major Rules/Principles of Creekview Cross Country
- BE ON TIME
- Show up on time for practice
- Show up on time for meets
- Show up on time for events
- Practice will begin and end on time, we will never start early or keep athletes late.
- Athletes are expected to stay for the whole practice/meet/event
- XC is a commitment and we expect the athletes to hold to that commitment
- GIVE AN HONEST EFFORT
- Complete the workouts and meets
- Push yourself in workouts and meets
- No slacking off on easy/long runs
- NO NEGATIVITY
- Keep a positive attitude
- No complaining about workouts or times
- No saying ‘I can’t do that’ or ‘I don’t want to do that’
- Negativity is counterintuitive. We have major goals in XC and they will not be accomplished if athletes have already given up.
We hold ALL athletes to these rules and standards, no matter if they are the number one runner or the slowest. There will be no special treatment. We as a team and coaching staff would rather lose with a hardworking and honest team than win with a lazy and permissive team. Negative consequences will be issued for each time a rule is broken by an athlete.
Negative Consequences
- The athlete will be dismissed from the day’s practice
- The athlete will be dismissed from the day’s practice and miss the next meet
- The athlete will miss a whole week of practice and the next meet
- Dismissal from the team
Other Team Rules
- Tobacco Use:
- 1st offense – 1 meet suspension; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- 2nd offense – 2 meet suspension; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- 3rd offense – dismissal from team; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- Drinking:
- 1st offense – dismissal from team for one year; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- 2nd offense – permanent dismissal from team; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- Drugs: Automatic one-year suspension; corrective action taken by School Administration.
- Missing the start of practice to make-up school work or get extra help – no penalty if athlete checks with coach FIRST (this means BEFORE PRACTICE). Student must check in with coach during the school day to let him know. Do not send word through someone else unless it is a teacher. Runners also must complete any training missed.
- Behavioral problems: Behavior not up to the Creekview Grizzly standards (generally behavior that would not be tolerated at school). Disciplinary action will be decided upon by the coaches, and if necessary, the athletic director and administrators. County policies and school rules apply to all cross country practices and meets.
- If an athlete has a job, they should arrange their schedule so as to not miss any practice or meets. Please give all important dates to your employer in advance.
- Athletes may not attend conditioning/practice/competition for another sport until their season is over. In consideration to other sports this goes both ways, you must complete the other sport’s season before you may come to practice/conditioning.
Situations may arise which are not covered by these rules. In these situations, coaches will make decisions and consult with parents if the situation warrants it. We will also make every attempt to be fair and consistent. You must sign a Grizzly Honor Code Contract in order to participate in practices and races. By signing it, you are saying that you understand the rules and will abide by them.
All the decisions made during the season will be made with the best interest of the TEAM in mind. Any behavior that does not fall within the guidelines set forth above or any behavior that is deemed unacceptable in any way will be dealt with appropriately and fairly, but it WILL be dealt with accordingly.
